Note: 2ch isn't 2chan, although many people confuse the two. 2chan is Futaba Channel which is an imageboard, 2ch is 2 Channel which is a discussion board. They are two completely separate sites.


2ch (２ちゃねる) is massive. Despite being restricted to a single country, it more than quadruples 4chan's average traffic. It is the 19th most visited site in Japan. It has 1000 boards active, encompassing everything from acrobatics to vigilantism. It's as close to mainstream that an anonymous internet forum could ever get, with 2ch merchandise being sold in bootleg and legit stores in Tokyo. It is also prominently featured in major films and TV/Anime series and moderators are treated as mini celebrities.
