4chan/boards

Welcometo4chan.jpg

The seasoned Internet traveler might find himself debased when presented by the mass of confusion that is so well embodied in 4chan. It is divided into many sub-boards, each having its distinct theme for image posting to satisfy the deviant mind. Occasionally to stir up some fun, the mods place wordfilters in the boards to completely screw around with peoples' posts/opinions. When it comes down to it, every board on 4chan is just /b/ with a theme. Everyone talks the same, complains the same, and trolls the same. Except the hentai boards, they're special. There are also a number of text boards, but they get very little traffic. Please note that many of these boards are NSFW.

  • /3/ - (3DCG) The slowest board on 4chan. The topic is 3D animation.t
  • /a/ - (Anime & Manga) See /v/. /a/ is just /v/ for anime and churns out its own memes at a similar rate. They hate anime just like /v/ hates the vidya. No longer tame by any standard, it has become a hive of ronrey otaku seeking PROMOTIONS. The rate of sages is very high. /a/ is the most trolled board from outside boards. This is despite moot originally creating 4chan as a place to discuss comics and anime.
  • /an/ - (Animals & Nature) Board for posting animals. You will learn things you never needed to know about cats, iguanas, and jumping spiders. They refer to themselves as /an/ts. Surprisingly civil by 4chan standards.
  • /c/ - (Anime/Cute) One of the tamest boards on the site.
  • /cgl/ - (Cosplay & EGL) Expect to learn about people's favorite anime characters.
  • /ck/ - (Food & cooking) Expect to see food of every sort here, but mostly in the terrible for you category.
  • /cm/ - (Cute/Male) A board for animated cute males. A haven for Gaia/LJ attention whores. Half of the posts come from the poster's friend's facebook.
  • /co/ - (Comics & Cartoons) Contrary to what you may infer from the title, there's nothing but non-comics & cartoons threads here. They refer to themselves as /co/mrades. /co/ is currently inhabited by a janitor who will delete any thread that could even slightly be about comics and/or cartoons.
  • /d/ - (Hentai/Alternative) This is for when hentai isn't weird enough for you. Most of the female drawings have penises. It is suspected that these people can no longer pee in a straight line due to overmasturbation.
  • /diy/ - (Do-It-Yourself) Makers gonna make. Along with r9k's revival on October 23, 2011, /diy/ also emerged. Basically, this board's main purpose is for those too cheap or elite to actually buy a fully assembled product and instead want to build it themselves. This includes but is not limited to computers, cars, general hardware, etc., but mostly just building computers.
  • /e/ - (Ecchi) A specialized cartoon board where they post naked women without explicitly showing their reproductive organs. Often considered uninteresting, because it tends not to contain hilarious sexual fetishes or things blowing up.
  • /f/ - (Flash) /f/ is a very small, minimalist version of Newgrounds. /f/ is one of the lesser known boards on 4chan.
  • /fa/ - (Fashion) It's users call themselves /fa/gs. Expect clothing related superiority.
  • /fit/ - (Health & Fitness) This is where people post about nutrition and working out. The users are totally NOT gay. This board is part of what makes up Zyzz's fan-base.
  • /g/ - /g/ used to be the home of guro images. These days it stands for Technology (obviously). It is well known /g/ is filled with more sage and nerdrage than any other board. Expect to see posts making fun of RMS and Linux.
  • /gif/ - (Animated GIF) Board for posting animated GIFs of porno clips and saying "sauce" and "rapidshare" until someone goes out, finds you porn, and delivers it to you. This is obviously a great use of limited time resources.
  • /h/ - (Hentai) One of the heaviest trafficked boards on the site.
  • /int/ - (International) Posting in languages other than English is encouraged. International trolls abound. Expect global politics threads and America hatred.
  • /hc/ - Was the hardcore porn board. Did not get any activity, Moot let it die.
  • /hr/ - (High Resolution) A board for HD pics. Basically, pictures that are take up more diskspace than is really necessary.
  • /i/ - (Oekaki) This board has an in-built functionality which lets you draw and post. While /i/ means invasion on many other chans, on 4chan, /i/ means drawing.
  • /ic/ - (Artwork/Critique) May seem mean at first, but is some of the best critique you can find on the internet. Just don't be afraid of weak attempts at trolling. Protip; leave your mediocre Deviantart animu portfolio at the door.
  • /jp/ - (Otaku Culture) A board used to isolate the non-anime related threads away from /a/. Japanese culture is discussed here by otaku.
  • /k/ - ((Weapons) & Politics) This is the most right wing board on the site. Killing is discussed here more than it really should. The other inhabitants of /k/ are mostly Europeans who are there solely to troll the incredibly easily trolled "/k/ommandos" with gun control topics.
  • /lit/ - (Literature) Obviously, one of the less frequented boards; But one of the more intellectual.
  • /mu/ - (Music) Your favorite band sucks. If you've forgotten, /mu/ is happy to remind you. Made exclusively for discussing trv kvlt Black Metal, Daft Punk, and Neutral Milk Hotel. In other words, it's pretty much pitchfork.
  • /n/ - (Transportation) Moot seeks to use every individual letter, no matter how unrelated.
  • /new/ - Bulldozed along with /r9k/. Largely due to racism.
  • /p/ - (Photo) Board for cameras and photography. Expect hipsters and art majors. Whatever camera you use, they will claim that it sucks, unless it's a Pentax K-X.
  • /po/ - (Papercraft & Origami) It's been years since any normal person has actually cared about origami but, hey, it's Japanese so it must be cool! /po/ offers one of the more esoteric (non porn related) topics. As a result of this, it's one of the least-popular boards on the site (it's unusual for it to get more than ten posts a day).
  • /pol/ - (Politically Incorrect) Politics, current events, and general debate. It's much like the late /new/, but with more rabid Alex Jones and Ron Paul supporters and constant liberal vs conservative threads. And just as racist.
  • /r/ - (Request) /r/ is a board where you can post an image and hope to get some moar. Success rates are so-so.
  • /rs/ - (RapidShares) Aggregates the RapidShares that have been posted on site.
  • /r9k/ - bulldozed in January 2011 for being too whiny and due to popular demand, was reived in October, 2011. /r9k/, or robot 9000, was a cleaner version of /b/ where a robot didn't allow any reposts; e.g. "lol" was posted once and only once. For reasons unknown, r9k drew lots of whiny people and pansies. For this reason, the board had to be demolished.
  • /s/ - (Sexy Beautiful Women) This is the main live action porn board.
  • /sci/ - (Science & Math) Expect atheism and a lack of social skills. Flooded with religion and pseudo-science threads from /b/tards, along with requests for help with algebra homework from 13 year old boys. Is presently heaven on Earth for people whose favorite trolling topic is probability math.
  • /soc/ - (Social) Created very early in 2011, the board has somewhat replaced /r9k/. /soc/ seeks to make a better version of /b/, but trying to make a successful formula with /b/ involved is easier said than done.
  • /sp/ - (Sports) Good luck finding a thread that isn't USA vs. Europe. The troll:serious poster ratio is almost astronomical here.
  • /t/ - (Torrents) Pretty much just HD porn torrents and some other weird shit.
  • /tg/ - (Traditional Games) aka Tabletop games. Yup, a whole board for Dungeons and Dragons.
  • /toy/ - (Toys) Talk about toys with your fellow adults. Just don't mention Jin Saotome. Don't.
  • /tv/ - (Television & Film) Obligatory television/movie board. Expect House fanboys and television elitism.
  • /u/ - (Yuri) This is pretty much the polar opposite of /d/.
  • /v/ - (Video Games) /b/ with vidya gaems. Populated by trolls, former GameFAQs users, former /b/tards, console fanboys, and people who masturbate to PROMOTIONS. They refer to themselves as /v/irgins. /v/ is in competition with /a/ as the second biggest meme factory on 4chan (after /b/, of course).
  • /vp/ - (Pokémon) moot created this board on July 14, 2010 due to the large amount of Pokemon General threads on /v/. Still ranks above /tg/ in coolness points.
  • /w/ - (Anime/Wallpapers) For all wallpapers anime. As can be noted by merely observing that "w" comes before "wg", the anime board must have appeared such, only strengthening the entire "Japanese are 1,000x cooler than us" mentality.
  • /wg/ - (Wallpapers/General) This is a general wallpaper board with things ranging from cars to girls to anime to just about anything else a teenage boy could desire yet not be able to afford, now or later in life.
  • /x/ - (Paranormal) /b/ with ghosts. Some major loonies can be found here.
  • /y/ - (Yaoi) Probably the board with the largest proportion of women.
  • /z/ - /z/ is another easter egg. It's simply a NSFW image of a penis swarming with bees.
