Summary

Child Pornography (CP) refers to, as namesake, pornography that involves children.

CP is an illegal phenomenon and a very serious crime, being the greatest foe of the FBI. Those who possess it risk the consequences of getting v& for a long time, even if they were to have it just for the sake of trolling. Because the FBI is watching you 24/7, it is increasingly difficult to acquire CP and not get caught, with many websites that advertise having "free CP" being traps to fool unsuspecting pedos. There are also some websites, such as image boards, that exist solely to record the IPs of those who post CP in order to be nabbed by the feds.

Origins

CP has existed since porn, and of course pedophilia has always existed. Though in the pre-internet days, it was a bit more difficult to acquire CP as one would have to go to black markets to acquire their illegal porn. The internet only revolutionized CP, as well as porn in general, as acquiring it became easier than ever and one would no longer have to travel outside the comfort of their homes to buy it. But then again, this is the internet, so most will pirate it from torrents or other P2P (pedo 2 pedo) software.

Drama

Unsurprisingly, CP has created loads of drama across the internet. Those who get caught are often ridiculed beyond comprehension, which is why /b/tards make light of it and see CP as something humorous. Many people who have a fetish for young children will defend CP as another form of free speech and art, and there exists communities that fight to legalize it. Those who do possess CP will always use the excuse that they're "not a bad person" and they "would never hurt children".

CP is also common trolling material, as a raid might flood a forum or image board with CP. Even more obnoxious are those who are caught with it that come up with the most inane excuse of having it. One example would be a man blaming his cat for downloading CP on his computer.

"Legal" Alternatives

CP is very illegal, so many pedophiles are afraid of possessing it as even viewing CP risks the consequences of getting jailed. Of course, like everything else that's illegal, there are those who try to provide a legal substitute, or an alternative. This includes, but is not limited to, dressing legal porn stars as innocent little children, drawn pictures, or shopping one's head onto a body from a porn scene (the latter of which still classifies as CP). Loli porn, which is cartoon/anime porn featuring little girls, is among the most common of these. The legality of loli porn is a complicated one; some have been arrested because of it while others are undeterred.

Child Modeling

Child Erotica, sometimes referred to as pedophile paraphernalia (or simply Child Modeling for those who sugarcoat it) refers to scantily clad children posing for "artistic works"; taboo photographs and/or other media as a regular yet harmless activity. Or in other words, it basically is barely legal CP. They usually consist of non-nude or 99% nude little girls doing sexual poses and can sometimes contain little boys, for those have a preference for males. Child modeling was created as a legal alternative so those all around the world could peacefully enjoy these "pieces of art" without the fear of getting arrested

Despite not technically being classified as pornography, the subject of legality of child erotica is quite different in many countries, though the legal status of the aforementioned has been hotly debated and there have been court cases over it. For example, in the US, it's illegal for any type of media to suggestively depict a little girl's crotch even if it is covered, according to the 18 U.S.C. § 2252(a)(2), 18 U.S.C. § 2252(a)(4), and 18 U.S.C. § 2256(2)(E). In Europe, however, acquiring such isn't so difficult as one would believe, since in some countries they can literally be found at a local adult video store. Despite child erotica being on a very thin line to being illegal, some expert hackers are not threatened by the laws as they have good knowledge on acquiring their said photos through the means of proxies and dumping their CP folders on an unsuspecting person's computer without their acknowledgement. Therefore instead of them being v&, their victims will get arrested all to their pleasure.

When its Classified as Porn

Like previously stated, not all pictures of little girls posing seductively are legal. Apparently, many can get away with owning obscene pictures of children as they can find many loopholes in the definition of pornography to defend themselves from being rightfully thrown in the slammer. To a certain extent, child erotica can be legal and when caught with possessing it, it is possible to get away with the charges so long as you don't own the images for sexual arousal (why else would someone have 200 Gigs of scantily dressed little girls stored in their hard drive?) As long as your folders aren't titled something obvious like "Little girls I would like to rape", then you, unfortunately, shouldn't have too many problem from the feds.

On *Chans

In the days of 4chan, during the years W.T. Snacks still held onto his almighty B& hammer, once a CP thread was started, the poster would be b& but the image he posted would remain. Of course, Moot, the top dog of 4chan, was not pleased by this and decided to end Snacks' reign of banning by banning him. CP and non-nude threads of little girls and boys would practically be posted on every imageboard, especially on 4chan. As a matter of fact, chans are a haven for CP and some post it just for the sake of trolling. Most of these non-nude threads can go on until they break the image limit or until someone decides to troll the thread with a CP picture, thus having the entire thread closed and possibly banning every poster in that particular.

It might come to no surprise that these threads don't usually get 404'd instantly on some chans, especially those that have a dedicated jail bait board.

Current status

Unfortunately it remains rampant, with law enforcement still trying to stop it.
