—Jessi Slaughter via Tumblr

Jessi Slaughter is an eleven year old American girl posing as a sixteen year old. After posting a video to YouTube in which she states that she would "pop a glock in your mouth and make a brain slushie", 4chan trolls personally targeted her and ruined her life.

After

Jessi begs the trolls to stop ruining her life while her father makes legal threats:

Origins

Jessi Slaughter was 11 years old in 2010, meaning she was born in 1998 or 1999. It is unknown how she got into the scenecore community, but she was a huge fan of Blood on the Dance Floor. She created a tumblr despite being under 13, and thus under the legal age to do such a thing (Did her parents give permission?). She posed as a sixteen year old. She and her family are from Florida, leaning more towards the rural part rather than the affluent, coastal part. Her mom said in an interview with momlogic.com that she considered Jessi a miracle child as she had previously been diagnosed with cervical cancer. Some trolls have hypothesized this led to lenient parenting.

Rise to fame

Jessi had a tumblr which she used to ingrain herself in the "scenekore" community, and she behaved similar to a juggalo during this time. She came to 4chan's attention in July 2010. As 4channers are highly responsible individuals, they sought only to alert her parents of their child's extra-curricular activities. Jessi originally played tough and threatened to "stick a glock in [the trolls'] mouths and make a brain slushie".

While what Jessi did on her own caused a lot of noise and controversy on 4chan and related sites, the situation truly exploded when she dropped her tough act and made two videos with herself crying and her dad getting increasingly pissed off. Papa Slaughter had finally taken a break from eating caviar and playing golf when he noticed people were making fun of his daughter on the internet. At this point, her father showed internet ignorance by claiming "you dun goofed", "I've backtraced your emails" and that the "cyberpolice are on their way". The result of these actions means that "the consequences will never be the same." The front page of /b/ always had at least one Jessi Slaughter thread during this time. Some members thought it was hilarious, some thought she should be left alone, and some were just tired of every thread being about the same thing.

Gawker

Gawker then got involved by covering the matter, ostensibly defending Jessi as an underaged child, but at the same time reprimanding her parents for letting her behave in such a way.

Normally, we find fears about kids on the Internet the product of technophobic hysteria. But this case is a very good argument for why parents should at least be vaguely aware of what their kids are up to on the Internet. Is your 11 year-old girl embroiled in an underage sex scandal with the lead singer of a popular emo band? Is she threatening to shoot people on YouTube videos? Maybe now is the time to invest in good parental control software before she becomes a meme.

Gawker's first Slaughter article

Covering Jessi Slaughter enraged many channers, so some of them decided to "raid" Gawker. Unfortunately for that bunch, Gawker writers are paid for the page views. So while they were trying to be mischievous, they were actually making the so-called writers lots of cash.

Gawker put out another article suggesting the family was under police protection. This was denied by the Florida sheriff's department, suggesting that Gawker may have gotten its sources from a troll.

The pinnacle of the Jessi Slaughter drama was reached when, on July 22nd, 2010, her family went on ABC's Good Morning America to discuss cyberbullying.

Jessi's Father Arrested For Child Abuse

Gene Leonhardt mugshot

Finally, on March 25, 2011, Jessi's father was arrested for child abuse. Gene Leonhardt, was arrested, according to a police report for punching her in the face.

According to the police report:

Jessi was arguing with her father when he "punched her, causing her to have a bloody and swollen lip." When the police officer arrived, he saw "blood on the victim's mouth and chin area."

Bonnie Dean, who lives near the Leonhardt residence in Dunnellon, told investigators that she was walking her dog when she heard “adults yelling and screaming.” She said that Jessica then ran up to her and she noticed that the girl “had a bloody mouth and that her lip was running blood and her face was swollen.”

Dean also recalled that the child said, “They’re hurting me,” and ran off when her father approached. Deputy Michael Turner reported that Leonhardt “smelled of alcohol and appeared slightly intoxicated.”

In addition to redacting Jessica’s name from the incident report, sheriff’s officials also appear to have removed references to the girl’s mother Dianne.

Leonhardt has pleaded not guilty to the child abuse charge and is free on $5000 bond. His next Circuit Court appearance is scheduled for July 14, 2011.

The following documents are the report from the Marion County Sheriff Department.

Foster Care

In a video released on August 12 2011, Jessi says that she is in foster care and makes some apologies. She goes on to mention that she has been in foster care and is currently in counseling. She repeatedly says she is sorry and says that she has no internet access at her foster care home.

The video is posted on the YouTube account of HiroKasyumi, who appears to be a friend of Jessi's although in the comments for the video, she says,

uh no.....actually i recorded this with my camera. It was the last day of school and the teachers didnt care. And she is just like that....she is very annoying and it was pretty annoying to get her on this video and no this is MY account not Jessi's. She cant use computers.

The comments generally go on to continue attacking Jessi because of her "ruining the life" of the Blood on the Dance Floor singer when she accused him of raping her when she was 11. Many are suspicious of Jessi's motives, but the video seems genuine.

Current status

Jessi Slaughter is often referred to when discussing cyberbullying. She and her family are allegedly living a more normal life right now as the internet seeks out a new victim.

She periodically tries to make new twitter and youtube accounts, but these are invariably deleted due to her age.

Her father was arrested on child abuse charges for punching her in the face on March 25, 2011.

On August 12 2011, Jessi released a video via her friend saying she was in foster care and apologizing for making false rape accusations against members of the band Blood on the Dance Floor.

Death of Gene Leonhardt

On August 16, 2011, BoingBoing reported the death of Gene Leonhardt on August 11. Goodnight, sweet prince.
