Oh Internet:Namespace Guide
Different namespaces exist for housing different parts of the project. The following namespaces are employed here:
Contents |
Main
The main namespace is the one that doesn't have a prefix. Examples include the Main Page, Boxxy, Longcat, etc.
Talk
Every namespace has its own talk: namespace. Talk pages are used to discuss their accompanied pages. For example, Talk:Boxxy is the location to discuss how to change the Boxxy article.
User
Every user gets their own user page. User:Idkwhat is an example. You can make your own userpage too by hitting that create with form button.
User talk
User talk pages are the exception to the talk pattern. User talk pages are for communicating with the owner. User talk:Idkwhat for an example, feel free to leave a message to show someone actually reads these help pages!
Oh Internet
This is the namespace for the Oh Internet official pages. This space generally includes policy and pages for dealing with the community. One example is the Bulletin Board.
Oh Internet talk
This is for discussing the Oh Internet pages. Just like every other talk page.
Help
These pages are for helping users in a more how-to format. This is contrasted to policy/rules which are found in the Oh Internet namespace. Help:Contents is the main help page.
Special
This is a pseudo namespace. You can't edit these pages, but they can help you out. See Special:Allspecials for more on that.
MediaWiki
These allow us to customize how certain things are labeled. This is a sysop only namespace. MediaWiki:Sitenotice allows sysops to put a banner on top of every page, for example.
File
This is where images go. You can edit this page to change how they are labeled.
Template
Templates are special pages that allow one to apply specific markup to a number of pages quickly and easily. You can find out more about templates here.
Form
Forms are special pages that Semantic MediaWiki uses to create, edit, and organize pages. While one may not edit these, they will be used very often.
Category
These are the groupings that gather up certain article types. See Category:People for one example.
