Summary

Tim Buckley, also known as Absath or Vithran, writes Ctrl+Alt+Del and has a lot of Internet drama surrounding him. Not only did he make a gaming webcomic with a miscarriage storyline (view the Ctrl+Alt+Del page for information on this) but he also has had quarrels with his own fanbase. And conventions. At this time, he doesn't really get any convention invitations, so he made his own con, called Digital Overload.

Jackie Incident

The CAD Forums used to have a section called "Rantings of Madmen" where some lulz were had. However, on September 11, 2005, a post was made about a "forum revelation." It has been misconstrued for some time that Tim Buckley showed his penis to an underage forum member called "Jackie". Prior to creating CAD, he showed his penis to a fellow member of the mallmonkeys forum, Amber, who was 17 at the time. Jackie was actually a misanthropic semi-psycho bitch who was friends with Amber, and the notorious photo of Tim's crotch was a shoop done by someone else at the time of the thread. Both Amber and Jackie were in their early twenties when the photo resurfaced. Buckley reacted by indiscriminately banning all users who might have seen the post, even those who expressed skepticism towards the accusation and defended him, and eventually closed down and deleted the whole RoM forum, as its local moderators rebelled and started undoing his bannings as quickly as he could dish them out.

In the aftermath of the whole incident, Buckley changed the management of the CAD forums, and appointed a handful those users most loyal to him to moderators. These promoted fanboys quickly started to ban anyone who voiced any criticism of the comic or Buckley himself, no manner how small and constructive, and soon the whole forum was practically cleansed of dissenters, the only users that remained was the most willfully blind of the CAD fanboys, creating an incredibly sycophantic atmosphere which has dominated the CAD forums to this very day. Of course, since at least 20 posts is needed before posting pictures on forums is possible, it can be questioned if the majority of the active users are genuine fans, and not just patient trolls biding their time.

WoW guild

After seeing that the other major gaming webcomics, Penny Arcade and PvP, had their own World of Warcraft guilds, Buckley said "me too!" and created one. However; he quickly grew tried of moderating it, and one night, in a fit of drunken rage, he kicked out all of its members and disbanded the guild. The members was soon after adopted by PvP's guild.

Character Theft

This image here shows that he took a little bit more than inspiration from a picture. When accused, he said:

I saw that picture in an article about punk concerts while researching character reference for Abigail. I needed clothing reference for a style of dress that I had only a passing familiarity with.

That drawing was among many I looked at, and had clothing that I felt matched the character I had in my head.

I'm sorry if this seems underhanded to you, but it is not uncommon for an artist to look for reference when drawing something new outside their comfort zone I don't believe people would be making a big deal if it had been a photograph I'd referenced clothing from. And as it stands, that is all I really did here. Best I could tell from the article (which had no link to the pic's artist ) this was a one-off pinup.

Again, if the artist would like credit for the clothing inspiration, I am more than happy to offer it. I will happily apologize to the artist when i get home if je feels wronged. But there was nothing villainous at work here, despite how much some would love to paint it as such. I looked for an outfit for a character and found one I liked.

Wiki Drama

Through a comparison of IP addresses, it was found out that Buckley had repeatedly edited Wikipedia anonymously, and, most interestingly, vandalized the page for PvP:

This is so great.

A fan sent me a condolences gift yesterday to try to lift me up. Boy did it ever. Apparantly there is a site called Wikiscanner, where you can look up someone's IP address, enter it into the site and it will show you every Wiki entry and edit they have ever made.

This fan had an email from Tim Buckley and used his IP address to wiki-search him.

[1]

My favorite: Tim deleted the enitre wiki entry for PvP and replaced it with "pvp sucks."

[2]

If you look, you'll see that at various points, Tim vandalized his own page anonymously, then posed as CAD fans admonishing the vandalism. This was like Christmas, and my birthday all rolled into one email.

Dear fan who wished to remain anonymous. One thing Mike Wieringo LOVED to do with me was gossip like a fucking bored housewife. He would have FUCKING LOVED THIS SHIT!

Thank you for this. It made a difficult day better.

It is currently unsure if Buckley still edits Wikipedia, but a user by the name of Thrindel has for a long time been suspected to be a sockpuppet operated by him.

Quotes

You have all these freaking colleges around and no decent hobby stores that support wargaming? No leagues, no tournaments, not even a friendly free-for-all-game night for Warhammer players that we could then beat up and steal the tables from? That just ain't right, Connecticut. That just ain't right. If I didn't know how much stupid work it would be, I'd just open my own damn store.

—Tim Buckley;

A miscarriage is definitely not a joke, and I have no intention of making light of it. And it can be a tough and emotional thing for couples to go through, speaking from personal experience. And I know that it's often much harder on the woman than on the man. However, I also know that it doesn't necessarily turn you into a sad, depressed sack of tears for the rest of your life. People can move past it, and heal.

No Peter didn't go "emo" you fucking moron. Just because someone combs their hair a certain way doesn't define them as a person. Don't clutter up my inbox with your stupidity again.

Famous Quote

I agonized the entire day about what to do with the script for today's comic. On the one hand, I felt the joke was funny, and ultimately harmless. But on the other hand, clearly any jab at a racial stereotype, no matter how playfully intended, is going to be a touchy topic for many people.
